Background of the Study
Electronic Health Records (EHR) systems have revolutionized the healthcare industry by enabling seamless access to patient data, reducing administrative burdens, and improving the quality of care. EHR systems streamline workflows, enhance communication among healthcare providers, and facilitate data-driven decision-making (Ahmed et al., 2023).
In Kano State, where healthcare facilities are striving to improve service delivery, EHR adoption has the potential to enhance patient care efficiency. However, challenges such as inadequate infrastructure, high implementation costs, and resistance to change hinder the full utilization of EHR systems (Bello & Musa, 2024). This study examines the impact of EHR on patient care efficiency in hospitals in Kano State.
Statement of the Problem
While EHR systems are designed to improve patient care efficiency, hospitals in Kano State face challenges in their implementation and utilization. Issues such as technical difficulties, limited staff training, and resistance to change negatively impact the efficiency gains expected from EHR systems. Despite these challenges, limited research has been conducted to evaluate the extent to which EHR systems enhance patient care in the region (Garba et al., 2023).
This study investigates the impact of EHR systems on patient care efficiency, focusing on hospitals in Kano State.
Objectives of the Study
1. To assess the level of EHR adoption in hospitals in Kano State.
2. To evaluate the impact of EHR systems on patient care efficiency.
3. To identify challenges faced in implementing EHR systems and recommend solutions.
Research Questions
1. What is the level of EHR adoption in hospitals in Kano State?
2. How do EHR systems impact patient care efficiency?
3. What challenges do hospitals face in implementing EHR systems, and how can they be addressed?
Research Hypotheses
1. EHR adoption levels are low in hospitals in Kano State.
2. EHR systems significantly improve patient care efficiency.
3. Addressing implementation challenges significantly enhances the effectiveness of EHR systems.
Scope and Limitations of the Study
This study focuses on hospitals in Kano State, examining the impact of EHR systems on patient care efficiency. Limitations include differences in EHR adoption levels among hospitals and variability in data accessibility.
